Overview
Eagle River Fire Protection District’s nationally recognized resident intern program provides premiere training and education for men and women seeking a career in the fire service industry. Our apprenticeship program immerses interns into the lifestyle of a firefighter, allowing them to develop top-level emergency service skills and certifications. ERFPD prepares its students for a professional career through outstanding training, education and real world experience.
After an intensive 12-16 week academy, our intern firefighters live in one of six working fire stations and regularly respond to emergencies with professional firefighters, giving them a one-of-a-kind hands-on experience before becoming a professional firefighter. Each intern lives in his/her own bedroom within one of the fire stations and shares a living space with fellow interns. The District pays the tuition for Intern Firefighters for an Associates Degree in Fire Science at Colorado Mountain College. In addition, the District provides state certification training including Colorado Firefighter I and II, National Registry Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Driver/Operator.
