Activities will include water safety and rescue, 911 dispatch, swimming/lifesaving techniques, CPR and first aid, traffic and fire safety, and a self-defense/personal protection class. Lunch will be provided however; participants must bring swimsuit and towel, jacket or sweatshirt and sunscreen. Pre-registration is required and available at Avon Recreation Center. October 4th – 10th, 2009 - Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week is an annual event and was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 in which 250 people were killed, 100,000 people were left homeless, more than 17,400 structures were destroyed and more than 2,000 acres were burned. The fire began on October 8, but continued into and did most of its damage on October 9, 1871.
The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week will be launched in June 2009, which we will post as soon as it is released.
During this week, upon request, Eagle River Fire Protection District visits schools and has numerous schools visit any one of our stations.
For more information on Fire Prevention Week and to view the themes from past years please visit the National Fire Protection Agency Web site.
